'98 Chevy Metro

Hey all!

Today has been a very good day- my wife and I bought a '98 Chevy Metro.

The car has 175,xxx on it. It's a 3 cylinder, 1.0 L 5-speed manual transmission in great shape. Apparently it used to be a Pepsi fleet car.

I figured I'd start this thread as a way to keep track of my progress with the car.

So far the list of planned mods includes:
Inspection
New Title
Registration
License
Ultragauge or Scangauge II (leaning toward the former due to price)

From there, who knows? The car is in wonderful condition, so much so that I almost don't want to yank the backseat and AC and everything else. We'll have to wait and see on that. But let's face it, I probably will

The most important thing is going to be learning how to drive a stick efficiently and safely (I never learned).

good find! wish i could find a metro in good shape...i would snap that right up. there are a ton of guys who have come up with a laundry list of proven mods. you really shouldnt have to come up with anything*original to get great mileage.
i would suggest doing a good overall tuneup and inspection followed by learning how to properly drive a stick. great mileage is sure to follow!

You'd think so, but after watching about a dozen superbly unhelpful videos, I stopped looking. If anyone knows of a *specific* video that is helpful, I'd really like to know about it.

Does anyone have any input on UG vs. SGII? I know the latter is the ecomodder endorsed or whatever, but it seems it has a whole boatload of features I would never use.

Does the SGe have the same troubleshooting capacitiesir is it more about carbon footprint and all that jazz?

We got the license and all that taken care of today, so now the car is legal. I took it out for a spin around the neighborhood, my first solo trip with a manual I killed it multiple times, but I know why, and I will make sure to not do that again. What I'm more worried about is how the car hops multiple times when I shift from 1st to 2nd. What's up with that?
