Thanks funny, it does sound easy enough. Did you do the job aready I take it? Is it easier to remove the sensor if the exhaused is up to temp or doesn't it matter. Hit it first with some PB Blaster maybe or similiar penetrant?

You want to try to avoid using any penetrant and being that close to a hot Cat can be unnerving, especially if you slip with the wrench. They make special O2 sensor deep well sockets that are about 13 bucks, I think. I have one, and the slot in the side allows you to get the socket over the O2 sensor without messing with the wire.

And yes, I am a trained amateur.

Special deep well, good to know. Well I finally got under the car to change the oil. My mileage was going down so I figured it needed to be done. So I went with the Super Tech synthetic. Boy do I smell oil now after each start-up & down shift. We'll see how long before I have to add a quart. I have a tank full of driving for gigs the next three days, so I'll keep an extra sharp eye on it.

I see where that sensor is located. Other than taking the seat out, looks like it should be pretty straight forward. I have a rain leak somewhere, so I hope the bolts are not that much of a bear for the seats. The carpet was ripped out by the last owner because of rotted carpet smell.

BTW, for a NE Ohio car its entire life, the underside doesn't look to bad really I saw some rust starting at the bottom of the rear quarter panels so I put some UMO, used motor oil, on the rust. should help! I also put some grease on the underside door lip on all 4 doors. Had some rust starting on the drivers, more like a rust stain on the outside bottom paint. At some point I will have to open up the door panels to check inside.

Well my oil mileage is like a 1/2 quart every 500 miles, but my oil is still like the day I changed it. I can live with that.

I also went to an import salvage yard, haven't put them on yet, but got a set of front struts, full assembly for 25 bucks a side, I pulled them. @ 236,000, mine are shot, they knock & rattle. When I changed the oil I checked for front play & there was none, so the noise should be the well used struts.

The only bad thing about digital speedometers, is when picking wear parts off of cars it would be nice to know the miles of a certain part. I had three donor vehicles to choose from, so I just when w/ the part that had the least rust on it & also the cleanest looking car.

Jeez, half-a-quart every 500 miles? You need new rings methinks. You could always swing by Wally world and try this stuff called Engine Restore. It comes in 4, 6, and 8 cylinder varieties, in a silver colored can. You add it during an oil change, and it should seal up some of the holes, maybe fix the problem. Just follow the directions and make sure that you check the oil frequently. Good luck.

I'll try it, it can't hurt! My oil is still very clean, I wonder if I can add it on my next refill!

No worries, I new it used oil but my friend that gave me the car said he didn't know how much. Now I do! I'm going to drive it till 300,000 is the plan. It being a Toyota I should have no problems accomplishing that goal!

When I'm cruising down the road 55-65, on level ground, the Scan GaugeII is saying 48-52 MPG. I can't complain about that at all. Other than watching the gauge, inflating the tires & running synthetic oil, that was easy, I'm a happy camper!
