Abandoned CitiCar
There is this house that appears to be abandoned right down the road from me and today I noticed there is a bright yellow citicar in the drive. Does anyone know of laws regarding what would happen to that vehicle, because I would be more than willing to adopt it I plan on driving to see if the house is actually abandoned or the owner has boarded up the windows for another reason. I really want that citicar.

Can you go to city hall and find out who owns the property? I believe that is public information. I would try to contact the owners and see if you can take it off their hands.

I know that it's hard to find the owner of a vehicle based off the vin number in my state, but some states it's easier, in the drivers side of the windshield is the vin tag, write down the number and go in to the police department, or DMV and ask if you can have contact information for the owner of what appears to be an abandoned vehicle, of course you might have better luck with the owners of the property, knocking on the door of the house next door to the abandoned one might help too, but by all means get your hands on that car.

Well I believe the only neighbor is the apartment complex. Its hidden behind trees but that bright yellow has shown through and stolen my heart I must have that car. i haven't seen it around town before so hopefully I can have it. It looks in good condition to be sitting under trees but I plan on driving over there and going to see it in person today. I don't know the year but its the one without the large bumpers that holds the batteries, its the one thats under the seat, that I can tell.

If you know a Cop it is super easy, just get them to run the VIN.
If you don't CarFax MAY help you. . . . .
You can also try and play the DMV for an ID . . . . .
Or If you know someone in the towing business, have it declared abandoned, a letter will be sent to the owner of the property, a note will be tagged on the car, and you should be able to pick it up cheap. ( That's how it works in Louisiana anyways)

If the building is abandoned looking, perhaps the owner of the car is in financial trouble.
You could help the owner out by offering some cash money and taking the car off their hands!

It was one of the few production electric cars out there. They are bare-bones simple, and anyone I have ever talked to LOVES them!
Click here to see all sorts of them.
Edit Ryland, is this photo better?)

not to nitpick Ben, but that light blue car is a Commuticar, the name change happened when the company was sold in I think 1978 or '79, they also made some changes like a larger motor, real glass windows instead of side curtains, and the most noticed change is the large black bumpers that stick out about one foot front and back, they hold the batteries, were the citicar has the batteries under the seat.
But yes, they were one of the electric cars that had the largest production numbers, about 2,500 citicars, not sure how many commuticars... sure those are low numbers compared to other vehicles that have been made, but compare that to the 1,100 EV1's that were made, or under 1,000 Chevy S-10 electric's.
Yesterday I talked to a guy about 70 miles away who has a Commuticar that he might be willing to sell me (put an ad on craigslist want-ad's a month ago), he said his dad got it new in the '80's when he visited the factory, and said that his dad was one of the founders of the HMV Free Way, a 3 wheeled "car" that was classified as a motorcycle and got 80+mpg for the gas model, had a limited production of the diesel model, and not sure if they ever sold the electric model, but it sounds like this commuticar was obtained thru a trade of an electric Free Way, hoping to take a look at it on Saterday.
