At one of my jobs, we have an identification number. The abbreviation is LLN (letter, letter, Number)- yet people constantly say "my LLN Number." I can't help it.

"Your letter letter number number? What's that?"
I need to remember my PIN Number when I go to the ATM Machine to take out the money to purchase a hot water heater.

Our military IDs are called Central Access Cards, so of course, everyone calls them CAC cards. At least to that I can respond "do push-ups," except the Sergeants say it as much as anyone else.

As I read this in my head, I couldn't help reading "I need to remember my Personal Identification Number NUMBER!

This reminds me of the "energy" drinks that many convenience and grocery stores sell. Looking on the back of the bottle, you will find many contain zero calories, and therefore zero energy. Makes me want to sell milkshakes and market them as energy drinks.

FWIW, the terms "multimedia" (as in computers) and "hybrid" (as in cars) used to give me the same sort of angst as in the OP.

And in response, thus spake the Oracle:
