Adding Spoiler to Swift/Metro for FE

I just read the article about the Ford Pinto they modded back in 1974. That one on the main page. So they added a small spoiler. This saves 7%. The pinto and the Swift/Metro have (almost) the same shape. SO i was sondering will a spoiler also give a better FE to a Swift/Metro?

This looks to be easy installed. Little bit metal "L"-shaped profile and some scru's (and some paint).

The hatchback angle & design is quite different between the two cars:

The Pinto likely has attached flow partway down the glass, whereas the Swift hatch is actually designed to ensure the airflow separates as it leaves the roof line.

You'd be better off extending the Swift's roof line. EG: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...sion-3518.html

The 2.3% measured benefit of the prototype kammback isn't as large, but the testing was done at 55 mph vs. 70 mph for the Pinto. The kammback's benefit would be greater at higher speeds.

I agree entirely with MetroMPG. If you notice, your swift/metro has a small "duck bill" buldge above the rear window which serves as a mini-spoiler, detaching flow from the rear window (where it would never stay attached at it's steep angle). I experimented with a few home-made spoilers on my old Metro and they had absolutely no effect.

Now, extending the roof line, I never tried.
