Similar, but shaped as if it were a section of the template teardrop in 3D. Rounded on the sides to meet the plan taper, and all that. Meant 100% for drag reduction and not necessarily downforce.

Don't know what a Gurney flap is. Basically a spoiler?
I'm not trying to say the base plate thing would be the final product, or that it should be used. I was hoping for a little data on it to see if it would even help. It was supposed to be a research project.
Of course a Kammback/boat tail will be your best bet for drag reduction. As long as we're testing the car we might as well test alternatives based on Coventry University data to see if there are other options for those pressed for time or money.

If you can find a photo of a 1969 Ford Torino Talladega, you'll see a Gurney flap used on this car.Very small,90-degree angle.

For what its worth, I did tuft testing a couple of years ago on a 1st gen neon coupe, and there was significant detachment on the rear window and trunk/factory spoiler. Anything past 1/4 the way down the window, and the tufts were facing forwards.

Sven, It looks great here, just be sure when you overlay it onto stuff you don't change the aspect ratio. It appears as though you shortened it when you put it on top of the Neon is all.
Thanks for all your good works! I hope I have not dimmed your spirit in any way. You are such a valuable part of Ecomodder.
Much respect,

WTF I just overlayed them in Photoshop and the Neon one is indeed squished. Can't believe it. Good eye!

A bunch of people in this forum got pretty picky when I made the same analogy.
See here:

Technically speaking, a Gurney flap is on a wing (and only a wing).
Anything else is merely a rear spoiler.
If the thing looking like a Gurney flap is on the trailing edge of something looking like a wing (fiberglass trunk lid bolt-on), but there is no air flow under it, then it is a spoiler on a spoiler, not a Gurney flap.
