Aero tweaks on 227MPH Biogas Audi A4

Hi,

Check out the aerodynamic tweaks on the Audi A4 that they just set the top speed record for a biogas powered vehicle:

Much of the upper part of the grill is covered (with acrylic), there is an exhaust louver just behind the radiator on the hood, the wheel covers are smooth (with printed on alloy wheel images!), the mirrors look smaller than stock, there is a wiper cover, the lower outer corners are smooth, and I'll bet the underpan is pretty darn smooth, too!

Those "fake" alloy/smooth wheel covers make me laugh.

Hard to tell, but it might be lowered as well.

And they've also done some work on deflectors ahead of the front tires.

The intercooler is behind the left fog lamp opening. Thats why it's only partly blocked. I had a look at a friends a4 and it had the most exquisite ducting feeding the intercooler! Typical audi engineers!
As for the fairing over the wipers, that must mean it'll help FE at hypermiling speeds no?

ollie

ps: all this recent coverage of undertrays has me hankering to do a full undertray on the yaris..........

It also looks like the front license plate holder is at an angle instead of vertical...

I wonder if they quantified the individual components' impacts.

Looks like there is some sort of black foam or something filling in the gaps between the headlights and panels?

The most interesting things are the air outlet behind the radiator and the angled license plate. I think the angled plate is to direct air up and over the plexiglassed grill.

An older picture of the car.

You can see that it has tire spats. Seems to be pilar mods at the windows. I like the F1 mirrors.

You also the sealing on head lights.

Wonder how the actual licenseplate works i guess the pressure on it must be insane at 227mph.

I would love to see how the undertray is done. I guess it's completly sealead under the motor that's why they direct air up from the front.
