aerodynamic speed brakes
As I stated in the EOC thread, I was thinking about a speed brake for my beetle.
I have only a week or two of this job left, so I doubt I will get to it this year.
I may be back for next summer though.
What I planned was a scoop panel I could deploy out the open sunroof as needed. This is a fair weather tool only

You should have a drop-down wheel attached to a generator for that job!

Or convert a Poulsen
You should have a drop-down wheel attached to a generator for that job!
...tinker/modify a Poulsen hybrid power assist system and create an aftermarket KERS, kinetic energy recovery system.

What i do, engine brake, open windows, and max ac to put a load on the engine.
Oh, i see, it's EOC. How about an electric brake pump?

I don't mind a couple of starts on the way down for rebuilding vac for the brake assist. I was looking for something more elegant, like sailing.
If I had a kinetic energy recovery system, what would I do with the energy? I don't want batteries, that would suck badly on the up hills. The big up hill.
So I thought, how about a Rube Goldberged fan on a post that goes up, powering a wood turning lathe? I could make custom Mt. Rainier pens in my spare time on the way down

air brake
On three occasions,trekking west in the CRX,entering Chama,New Mexico from the east in the wee hours of the morning,I would kick open the driver's door fully,with window up and hold it with a locked knee as I descended the grade into town at 55 mph.
I couldn't really discern any significant deceleration.
It's funny what sleep deprivation will do to aero-holics.
The elk seemed unamused.

Spinning up a flywheel maybe? Extra weight infolved but it would help carry you back up the other side. This would be complicated.

Hello, just wondering if this speed brake idea has gone anywhere. I always think about it while on the exit ramp, or going down steep hills. I had a Ford Winstar with the electric windows in the rear, I enjoyed hitting that switch to deploy the "speedbrakes"
