The Aerodynamic Streamlining Template Discussion

How about we discuss this issue (on this thread instead of the announcement thread) for the next few days?

Will someone please help me out and post the version that showed a semicircular cross-section? IIRC, that one was hand-drawn.

Do you know there is already a template discussion thread?

Most likely, but this looks to be a more focused thread. Once it peters out, linking to it in the template thread might make sense.

Are we allowed to simply insult each other in this thread, or is it going to be real?

Let's go with the conflict thread. Maybe a moderator will delete this one.

Which thread? This one? A few days?

I think you underestimate what it takes for the mods muster one f-.

Still, I've railed for years against The Template as a Procrustean bed. I offered the superellipse as an alternative to the hemicircle.

The discussion I highlighted in ecomodder.com/.../interpersonal-conflict-subforum-38680-2.html#post633948 came from reverse engineering a hand-traced sketch, by one PK (), from a book. I propose a rigid mathematical framework to generate an aeroform, from a 5 or 6 frequency octahedral geodesic prolated 30/70 in the longitudinal and oblated 30/70 in the vertical axis.

As a motorhome it has a large window (Luigi Colani three-blade wipers) in front and skylighting in the living area. And a cute lil white cap.

Truncating The Template makes it more livable. Here's a diffuser that scavenges the underbody applied to a superellipse.

edit:
I need to figure out a graphical way of superlliptifying a geodesic. That involves combining Cartesian and Synergetic geometries. ???

And three synchronized three-blade propellors on overlapping hexagons would be Steampunk.

( template ) cross-section

If you'll GOOGLE
Z2FU9Sm2qLY
it will take you to the You-Tube video of the 'template' at DARKO Wind Tunnel.
Both parking lot and wind tunnel footage will show the cross-section.
At 1:1-scale, it's a 5-passenger ICE, or 6-passenger BEV.
I thought I posted a three-view image long ago.
For a comparison, you can also look at the 2013, Cambridge University Eco Racer ( CUER ) solar race car. It's very much like the 'template ', Cd 0.11.

Very cool, and at the 5:45 mark the smoke begins.

And at 8:30 mark the tail comes off.

It's unfortunate that we didn't have more image contrast, but if you look hard, you'll notice complete flow attachment, all the way to the rear, with or without the tail.
With the smoke wand high, you'll also notice very little 'cramping' of the streamlines, since the blockage ratio of the small model was favorable, compared to Spirit and Gumby 79's Tonto.
Also, the hold-down straps used to secure baby to the ground-board did interfere with the wheel fairings and their ability to smooth flow to the rear wheel fairings.
Had I known in advance, I would have drilled the bottom of the front wheels and installed 1/4-twenty Riv-Nuts in them, and bolted baby down from below the ground board, eliminating the flow interference of the exposed straps.
Live and learn.
