ahhh, the upside down cereal bowl trick.

My car simply looked like this. little filter for the old sube. Filters original style are ebay now (no local), and it got to be a pain. so I got one that has been around for ..oh...4 to 500 years of the internal combustion carb world for something universal . Bolted right up

This is after an ice storm drenched the car. The surprise the next day with it skipping farting and well a wet car sound...kept running anyway, but annoying. So i thought quick and this is where it is now, ready for anything oem wasn't.

1. natural heat rise by the choke gets trapped under bowl, cools choke, heats car in the car in cold. Nic ebalance.
2. bowl is plastic, one quick slam of any old sube hood gets the metal carb plenum touching it. That has always bothered me, the choke and feedback is sensitive electrical, and grounds where it sits. the bowl stopped this.
3. What goes up must come down. There is a phyisic in ice storms that drenches everything, this car keeps going, but gets reminded after it is shut off what kind of ice storm it just passed everybody in....(as old subes do)
4. the fast heat rise == better fuel mileage, with natural meter and warmer car inside as well when asking for heat.

my old soob success story for ecomodders.com

Your spare tire is under your hood? Is it on top of the engine?

Subaru = boxer engine... horizontally opposed 4 cylinder. Leaves lots of room under the hood for... spare tires. Which leaves more room in the vehicle for real cargo.

Hmmm, sounds like alot like Subaru's frameless windows on the doors... I don't know what the original thinking was, save weight? more glass area?
Anyways it was a way to have wind noise and leak water in... Which everyone notices alot more than a 10lb lighter car or 12 sq. inches of glass...
My old Neon has frameless windows, I love them!!! The second gen of Neon is missing these marvels of engineering....

It would not be fun to put on your spare and have it fail 20 miles later after being cooked for the last 4 years under the hood...

I guess someone has to try something different once in a while, sometimes it might pan out.

I personally love frameless windows... and don't really like the spare under the hood idea. But it works, apparently.

Congrats on keeping your old scooby-do running, AFA the spare up front. Reminds me a of a time I helped someone with a jump start. Popped the hood and no battery!! The woman had no idea where it was, so I ended up looking in the owners manual. and found the battery under a cover under the floor in the back seat....Might have been an Audi?

And a question, whats that brownish thing in the lower left corner of the 1st photo?? A Luffa? some kind of fungus? I'm guessing a towel for insulation.

Good luck with your sweet ride and happy holidays!
