The cost is to be spread over the life of the car.

If it is kept about three suggested filter changes or longer (about 150 000 kms total) then the cost is just less than three dealer filters @ 32.00 each.
Anything extra is a bonus.

An interesting line up with the K&N though.
Just slightly less expensive and no oil to buy.

Pete.

Totally agree but that is not the issue being discussed.

K&N (oil is extra) $111.00
 what the crap!!! WHERE THE CRAP ARE YOU BUYING THAT FROM!?!? most expensive K&N I've seen is like $60, I got mine for 50!

They come pre-oiled anyway, and they last like 20k before re-oiling, and then the oil kit lasts forever.

Yeah I know , not cheap.

I looked in one place to get some idea of the prices but there must be better deals out there. I'll have another look when time allows.

I have a feeling it is the local (Australian) distributor not the company.
Even the US / Australia free trade agreement hasn't helped.!

What about AEM dryflow filters? (Fram also offers these under their own name)
http://www.aempower.com/ViewCategory.aspx?CategoryID=32

I came into one for free and like it for my Jeep, which sees a huge amount of dust when out playing on the weekends. A std filter would need changing after 3000-5000 miles, now I can just clean this one out and I'm good to go. Testing in an off road magazine showed it filtered better than about anything, especially K&N. I've had nothing but good luck with it and have seen no signs of dust making it past in the 45,000 miles or so that I have been using it.
