I had the exact same bike/year, should be noted it was a two stroke single cyl with oil injection. I bought mine new at 14, put 17000+ miles on it, and the day I turned 16 stepped off and never road again, until yesterday I checked out a 2022 BMW 310R w/300 miles and a 2021 Kawasaki W800 w/200 miles.
No way would I get another 120 for transportation.

Why can't one get a 125cc serial-electric hybrid with axial flux hub motors, anyway?

Well, sometimes I do lurk about the absence of any hybrid motorcycle, besides a handful of scooters which were not much of a success on the market

Mostly because you can't cram enough battery onto it to be worthwhile, to much gasser stuff taking up all the available room.

There was a Honda Grom for sale here for cheap. I was so tempted! But I figure that I better ride my pedal-powered bicycle before getting a gas powered one.

Would eventually need to move the engine to the rear suspension swingarm, just like the scooters

Made in India, imported by a leasing/rental startup and assembled under contract in Manaus by a company which already had a partnership with the factory where the CKD kits come from. Just 110cc and 4-speed transmission, but it's been quite easy to spot those in my hometown. Most are used for work by motorcycle couriers, I always see one in front of a McDonald's when I take the dog for a walk

Looks to be a twitchy beeyatch to ride at slow speed, no trail. Where's the feet pegs?

Built a 3 speed bicycle like that back in '71 for cruising the strand, learned a lot about slow speed handling. Fun downhill to the beach ok on the empty strand, but that was it.

Didn't attract chicks either.
