Well, maybe it also being subjected to lesser emission regulations than a more recent model with a similar engine leaves a more reasonable power and torque reserve.
Pretty much. The newer dr200 uses the carb they swapped to in the 90s and the dr125 from the 90s also uses the same carb. Looking at swapping to the I think 31mm carb off one of those from the 26mm carb that comes on this one. Supposedly nets me 14hp from the 12hp these come with. Newer DR200 is still grandfathered into whatever year it made its last change to the model. Judging by the looks its probably still grandfathered in around 1992.

I don't remember having ever seen a DR 200, yet once in a while I see a DR 400 when I go walk the dog.

I'm supposed to take delivery of the dr200 this weekend I've been waiting over a month pretty excited. It's a 2019 with 56 miles on it. And pertinent to this post, I have a deposit down on a Honda Grom. Hoping to get 100 miles per gallon with DR and 150 with the Grom. The DR's for slightly higher speeds, and exploring logging roads and some trails and hopefully camping off of it. I don't believe that the world's fuel prices are going to get any better ever, so I'll hope for the best and try to prepare for the worst.

Considering a backpack full of camping gear, and a small tent, could serve you as well as a motorhome or a truck with a camper shell, maybe the size and weight of the motorcycle would also be advantageous to reach places where a larger vehicle wouldn't be so easy to ride

I have been considering motorcycles with a sidecar, or converted into tricycles, a suitable option to address fuel cost concerns, but many folks would see me as either too cheap or a conspiracy theorist

There are kits to turn Hondas & Harleys to into adult tricycles, possibly others. Can't see where that would involve a conspiracy, and I know you're as cheap as my wife

I could see where a sidecar would hold some additional gear, and depending on how aero it is or not. Of course we have all seen motorcycle type tent trailers that are pulled by big bikes, but with a smaller bike of course, weight is so important. It would be interesting to see a bicycle type cargo trailer modified a little suspension wise I would think, might be a way to carry just a little bit more then one might want to put on the bike itself.

How much are you paying for the grom? New five speed one, or the older four speed?

It is the new 5-speed. The price is 3499 for the base model. The ABS model is now $300 more at 3799. I personally just wanted the pearl white color. That happens to be the ABS model which I didn't really care about. But I just wasn't crazy about the other colors. So 3799 plus $200 destination fee plus $100 Freight fee plus sales tax of course runs it up pretty good.

Shoot you were right on fuel prices. Driving the 125 right now is quite a bit more fun now.

I showed up to test drive one several months ago and was quoted $5K OTD for a bike that showed in inventory but wasn't there, $800 destination fee........ That kind of crap really turns me off to the typical dealer shopping experience.
