12 mpg to 32 mpg...

I found this forum after I found out there is not much for Versa forums.

My name is Luke, I have been active duty Navy for over 10 years. I have a bachelors degree in History, but have taken calculus and calculus based physics. I needed an easy degree to complete in a really short period of time. The calculus was a Navy requirement but I enjoyed it as well as physics.

In November of 2009 I traded in my beloved 2009 Dodge Ram Hemi Crew Cab 4x4 with 390 HP and 3.92's gears for a 2009 Nissan Versa S with a manual transmission.

Why? I got sick of paying for a 28K$ vehicle and the gas it took to drive it.

The Versa was a change, but the wife, 2 kids and I all got used to it. We have also saved roughly 2500$ in car payments and gas since trading it in.

We are trying to go debt free, forever, in the next two years. The only thing we ever want to borrow for is a house. I came here to figure out how to save as much money as possible on gas since I drive 2000-2400 miles a month.

I have been lurking for a while and am very impressed with the amount of knowledge on this forum.

You'll catch on! I came here as a tuner, someone that wastes gas and tires, but I'm conserving more and learning a lot!

Your comment on debt free reminded me of Dave Ramsey. Ever read his books or listen to him on the radio? Very fun guy to listen to.

Before the truck was an SRT-4 Neon...

I have his book next to me actually. I have made a pretty good budget using his advice. We dropped cable, switched to el-cheapo DSL, I got rid of the Blackberry for my old Razr, etc.

The gas mileage thing is more of a personal challenge then anything. I have the need to tinker and if it can't be on a fast car, I am going to make my slow car slower...
