2000mc...I thought the first number (205,215,etc.) was the width and the second number (65,70,75,etc.) was the sidewall height (profile?). If a 205/70R/15 is a .4% smaller than my 14's then wouldn't a 215/70R/15 also be a .4% smaller and a 205(or 215)/75R/15 be larger? Also I can't imagine a 15" tire in the same profile (70R) being smaller than a 14" tire with the same profile. Or am I just confused as usual?

I love my VX wheels but 13 tires are getting hard and hard to come by. I wound up switching to HX wheels for more tire options. And even those are getting to be slim pickings

the first number (205,215) is the width in millimeters. the second number (65, 70, 75) is the aspect ratio (or percentage) of the side wall to the width of the tire. so a 205/70 tire would have a side wall height of about 143.5mm, and a 215/70 tire would have a sidewall height of about 150.5mm.

as far as a LRR tire that works in the snow, it seems like every other snow tire made by a major brand is LRR. as far as the best all season tire i'm hoping the michelin defender does well as they're replacing their harmony line with it, but i'm guessing its rolling resistance would be in the poorer spectrum of lrr tires. they haven't been out long enough for anyone to have them in snow yet, echo-francis has some and i'm hoping he finds out this fall before i have to replace my current tires.

Thanks for the info 2000mc! I never knew that was how the numbers worked. I just assumed that a 70R tire had the same sidewall height as all other 70R tires. So, when the day comes, and I have to get new tires, I can surely find 15" ones that have the same (or roughly the same) diameter as my stock 14's and not have to worry about the odometer or speedometer being off by very much. If i am doing this correctly then even a difference of 2% in diameter at 55mph would only throw off the speedometer by 1mph and only 2 mile for every 100 miles traveled?

Nokian makes some LLR snows, and the WR G2 is a all season with winter rating & LLR.

hatman,
got to tirerack . com.
after you get a tire, look for 'specs' they list all the measurements etc.
also all the tire sizes in that particular 'model'. it is a great resiurce.

here is the specs page on the 215/70/15. scroll down to see all the sizes for this model tire
