Any good LRR tires for Satur SL1? 175/70 R14
In checking on TireRack.com I didn't find any Low Rolling Resistance tires in the 175/70 R14 tires that my room mates Saturn SL1 take unless she wanted to get some snow tires and she tends to only drive when the roads are clear so snow tires are not needed, she'll be easy to talk in to spending a little more if they get better mileage then average.
So anyone have suggestions for tires? we have enough tire shops around that I'm sure I can get most tires as long as they are sold in the USA.

It's a really common car with a really common size of tire so I was shocked that I couldn't find any good tires out there.

Ryland -
I bumped the tire size up from 175/70 R14 to 185/70 R14 on tirerack and got a good choice :
Kumho eco Solus HM KR22 - $61
Quote:
The eco Solus HM (High Mileage) KR22 is Kumho Tire's Standard Touring All-Season tire developed for the drivers of family coupes, sedans and minivans. The eco Solus HM is designed to offer a combination of extra long wear, low noise and good ride with competent handling and enhanced all-season traction, even in light snow.
The eco Solus HM features Kumho's traction-enhancing advanced carbon compound molded into a computer-designed symmetric tread pattern that combines independent shoulder blocks, intermediate ribs and a continuous center rib to provide predictable handling, straight-line tracking and low noise. Four circumferential grooves help resist hydroplaning and full-depth sipes, effective for the life of the tire, cut through water film to enhance wet grip and all-season traction. The tire's internal structure includes twin steel belts to provide strength and is reinforced by nylon belt edge layers (normally only found in high speed/high performance tires), to enhance durability and stability. A polyester cord body provides a smooth ride and spirally wound single strand beads provide more precise tire-to-rim fit to reduce the possibility of vibration.

I have had 165/80R15 on for low RR, cornering not great though.

I agree with arcosine, wheel sizes were R14 or R15.
What is the wheel size on your SL? All four tires should say ###/## R14 for a 14" wheel or ###/## R15 for a 15" wheel.
*If* you are willing to get 16" wheels for the Saturn, then I quote the inimitable Christ, :

CFG83 - 215/55R16's on 16x7 wheels will fit under your car, even lowered slightly.

Here is more stuff on comparing compatible tires :

Yeah, altho I would rather stick with stock size or narrower as she tends to drive rather conservatively so I'm going to keep looking and am still open to other options.

Ok, I understand. It's a 2.33% change in readings on your odometer, so at least it's not toooo radical. On the other hand, while I like tirerack for comparing, it doesn't have tires like Nokian.
I am pretty sure that the OEM tire for the SL1 is a Goodyear Integrity :
Goodyear Integrity - $62
Quote:
The Goodyear Integrity has become a popular Passenger All-Season tire as the result of being chosen as an Original Equipment fitment on numerous family coupes, sedans, minivans and crossover vehicles. Integrity radials blend low rolling resistance tread compounds and internal constructions tuned to enhance vehicle fuel efficiency with year-round traction, even in occasional light snow.
Integrity tires mold an all-season tread rubber compound into a symmetric tread design that combines a continuous center rib to provide constant rubber-to-road contact and increase dry road traction as well as reduce noise. Independent shoulder blocks, circumferential grooves and siped intermediate tread blocks promote foul weather traction. The tire's internal structure includes twin, high-tensile steel belts on top of a polyester cord body to enhance reliability and ride.
|
These don't have the LRR tag (other sizes of this tire do qualify for LRR), but the OEM tires are usually picked for good MPG in order to raise the CAFE fleet average MPG.
The reviews aren't great though, 5.19 out of 10 for 1000+ reviews.
