Any options for Golf Mk5 TDI?

So i have this mk5 tdi, that came with basic dash, so no fuel economy readouts of any sorts. I'd like to add that functionality to the car by some means.

This is how i came across this forum. Is there any options, that i can buy or build to get this functionality on this particular car? To my understanding, mpguino seems to be more geared towards gasoline cars.

Thank you!

OBDII?

More than you need for a competitive price. It has an accelerometer, and HQ camera input. Here's a 16 minute unboxing/review by a guy who says he's going to use it for OBDII. I check his uploads, he's been busy but not with that.

This thing will do face recognition and mine crypto.

This review, from April says it's $195 and shipping soonish.

That's basically a $50 compute module in a $150 case. The main advantage I see is the available mounting points, touch screen and front panel hard switches. But the sky would be the limit -- you could wire the whole car for Ethernet.

You have torque, VAGCOM & a couple of other readers. But to get really good data you need a good obd2 adapter module. I suggest going to http://forums.tdiclub.com/index.php since they have all the proper data on how to.

My MK6 is internet ready even has an onboard cellphone. If you have the big screen entertainment system,it's hijackable, but I am not fluent in Mk5.

I have a 2004 Mk IV TDI and have been very happy with the ScanGuage II that I installed soon after I bought the car. I also own an Ultraguage, which is a little cheaper but I don't like it as much as the ScanGuage.

Just to give some updates on the topic; There's a gaugecluster mod called 3DColorMFD, designed specially for mk4/mk5 Golfs (and other cars on that platform), that adds a color display with all the usual information like MPG.

It costs around 200€ and i'm getting mine done soon.

Cheaper than the other options:

You might want to put a boost gauge in it. I usually have my vw in top gear by 30-35mph and driving sedately are important. A notebook and simple calculations will tell you if you are doing good or not.

The biggest thing you can do is to not drive your car as much. Although miles per gallon are important, more important is gallons per month. We are using about 3 gallons per month. Some months less than 1 and some months 5.
