I have no idea what my average speed was. I just try to pretend that my top speed is 60mph, no matter what road. Also, at work I park at the top of the lot and roll down it with the car off and into the road and then turn it on, people think I stalled or something and laughed one night! Oh well.

I had a good amount of freeway but most of the roads are hilly 45mph roads.

Sounds like you are driving at optimal speed (<60mph) this tank.

Per ROFL Box, driving <3000rpm (<60mph on 5th) saves most gas. That means, if I want to drive more efficiently with higher speed, either I need to change the ECU, or, more simple way, change a set of taller tires.

Well they say, and especially with a box, that the faster you go the more you are just using gas to push air. So 60mph sounds like a good top speed for any road to me. And having an automatic, the RPMS are lower once I hit the final gear. (approx. 30mph - 1,000rpm, 48mph - 2,000rpm) So that could help!

If I change the tire from 185-60-15 to 185-65-15, same width, but taller. The ratio would be 1:1.023. Before 3000rpm@60mph, 3250rpm@65mph. After change: 2930rpm@60mph, 3175rpm@65mph. 3000rpm@61.42mph. If VVTi changes timing @3100rpm, then I can drive @63.47mph rather than 62mph with better efficiency after the change. Am I right? Too bad, doesn't make much difference.

Yeah the low geared transmission does hurt.

My problem is constantly trying to coax the auto to stay in 4th gear where the rpms drop significantly.

I just checked, 40mph is 1,800 rpms in overdrive, what is it in 5th gear?

2000 rpm @40mph. Final gear ratio is too high!! I would like 2500rpm~2700rpm @60mph, rather than 3000rpm right now.

Your best bet would be to find an Echo transmission, actually. It's pretty much identical save for the taller gearing.

I want an Echo tranny.

...and an Echo manual steering rack.

...as cheaply as possible.

Wow. That manual transmission is really high, great for city driving, but worthless for anything else.

My tank now is looking decent, I'm not at halfway yet but have passed 200 miles, lots of neutral coasting and pushing my car out of the driveways. haha.

Last night on the freeway, I saw a civic driving same speed as mine. I thought I met another hypermiler driving 65mph. When I turned my head and saw that driver. Oh, that is a 70 to 80 years old man with glasses. I ate his dust when climbing up the hill.......

Finally, I got back up to 40.84mpg with some EOC help. Without EOC, about 40.16. I
didn't EOC a lot, about 6 miles without turning on the engine. Even 40.16 is very good, thanks to drafting and slowing down to 60mph on freeway today. Later, I will change the transmission fluid and see if any improvement. 135K and never change once.......

By the way, I saw some xB drivers go 535miles in one tank, which is more than 45mpg. wow......
