Anyone out there with a 90's toyota mid-full size getting good MPG?

I didn't want to just start out and say "hi", and thought this would be more interesting.

I have a 95 Camry wagon that has been getting rotten GPM. When I got it, it was getting less than 15MPG now it is up to 20-21MPG on average, with a whopping 25 at 65MPH with full roof basket (yeah I know, but needed the storage for the trip) on the highway My other car a Nissan "J-rod" got 28-33 without trying, so the Camry with less power has been a disappointment to say the least. I have mostly been doing repairs, the mods I have done are and air damn and 2.5in mandrel up stream cat back with a 2in (stock size) reduction at the tail pipe. The idea going for a venturi effect, kind of like on some scooters.

I have been thinking about ditching it for a Escort wagon, but I don't want to have any regrets. The idea of a motor trans swap is temping, but what else does Toyota have besides the corolla that is worth it's salt?

I didn't see much with the vehicle search,so does anyone have any hope for me?

Was that too many words for an intro?

Old EPA is 21/24/28; hwy cruise at 55 w/o luggage box should net 28-30.

That is with the fuel that we can't buy anymore, non 10% ethanol right? Or should I be buying 93 octane without the corn gas?

93 Octane is still 10% ethanol, isn't it?

EPA.gov should give the updated numbers for your car. I know my old Mazda was originally 25/31, but dropped to 22/28 with the ethanol and the new EPA cycle testing.

Anyway, good luck. It's amazing what kind of improvement is possible just by changing your driving style (see the 101 hypermiling tips above) but the car itself will always have limits.

The ethanol doesn't make any difference at that concentration.

I worked at a gas station a number of years ago and at that time the 93 didn't get the ethanol. It could have changed since, or it could be different depending on different companies.

I have never tested it myself but for what it is worth there are quite a few news articles that suggest 5-10% difference.

If 93 octane did not contain ethanol, I'd have expected to hear more reports of improved fuel economy with it, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I searched around a little on google and it looks like you are right just about everything seems to have the added ethanol. Airport gas stations might be an exception, and there is this site Ethanol-free gas stations in the U.S. and Canada

Due to the lead content it would destroy the catalytic converters. Doesn't worth to use AvGas in a car.
