Anyone tried Firestone Champion Fuel Fighter tires?

My new-to-me Mirage came basically with drag slicks. So, I'm looking into tire options. Fortunately and unfortunately, it has an odd tire size (along with the Honda Insight) of 165/65 R14. This means I could mount RE92s on it, but they're also pretty pricey.

So, I'm looking at replacing them with the Firestone Champion Fuel Fighter in 185/60 R14s instead. This would give me a bit more grip and hopefully maintain most of the LRR goodness.

TireRack has a test of them here:
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests...y.jsp?ttid=220

But, I'm hoping someone here with a more fuel efficient mindset can shed some light on these tires. Thanks!

The Firestone Champion Fuel Fighter is what I'm running on the GP. Have less than 1000 miles on them. They seem to roll easier than the Goodyear Eagles that were on it. But can't give you any numbers as there is no commute or routine drives for this car.

Going by info on tirerack, you'd be crazy not to buy the altimax rt43. Then again, I always prioritize wet grip over just about all other parameters. My $.02

To my knowledge, in 165/65r14 you have Michelin Energy Savers (usually $90-100), Dunlop Enasave ($115) and Potenza RE92 (~$80). None of these ever struck me as particularly expensive because their 185/65r14 counterparts (used by Prius, Corollas and Civics) were always more expensive.

EDIT: Anyway, with a low-powered car like my Insight, putting on oversized or non-LRR tires literally lowers top speed in 5th gear, so you'd be crazy to do it.

I used them on my Impala for a number of years.

Didn't seem to affect MPG. Never used them in winter (car not Ziebarted).

OK tires.

Not much ever affected the Impala's MPG until I swapped out the old second gen small block for a LS2.

I have them in my focus and Mrs. Spif's 05 Legacy. She had a blow out about 2 weeks after buying the car and we replaced all 4. Seems to be a good tire, good wet traction, not boo noisy and seems to last on my Focus. Don't really have anything to compare them to but I am happy with them and would buy them again.
