Here's how it went for me [at this time in this location]: First a nag screen with two prominent [Hobson's Choice] buttons and a discrete close box upper right, then a close box upper right that would only display once you mouseover, then a countdown time once you do mouseover.

Then eventually they gave up.

The next step is Bulleye to Bookworm.

I don't have a problem with commercials. Services like YouTube are free. If we take away the ads then they'll either have to charge for YouTube or delete it.

I can choose to watch fewer ads by watching less YouTube. That would be a win-win.

I used to watch hours upon hours of excruciatingly boring Mr. Rogers shows in the off-chance I could see how crayons are made. Now there's videos about how everything is made. I couldn't possibly watch all the neat videos on Youtube in a single lifetime. In fact, the neat content is added faster than there are hours in a day.

That's true to a degree.

But at the same time I find that a lot of neat and useful info on the web is being taken off or paywalled. There's a lot of stuff that can no longer be found. Thankfully there are those that are trying to archive it all, but then they do get in trouble from time to time for copy right infringement.

Also, I find I get so interested in videos and forums that I keep looking for more and therefore run out of time to do what the video was supposed to help me do.

It used to be that all the neat info was in books. Like if you bought a computer it would come with a thick manual telling you everything it's capable of and how to do it. Now you buy a computer and it comes with ads for buying another computer.

And yet the Recently Uploaded category on the home page shows one or two new items a day.

At least Mr. Rogers was in syndication. I used to watch hours of black & white OTA hoping for a swim suit (not even a bikini) shot before it disappeared into the Ether. This while en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manina,_the_Girl_in_the_Bikini was in theaters.

Best so far today? www.youtube.com/@shortyverse1920/videos

The on-demand aspect of modern media also has virtually killed socialization.

Texting... "Hey Bob! I invited a bunch of friends to come over and stare at their phones. You wanna come too?"

In grade school, that was the only reason I'd watch Flipper. I don't even know what the show was about, I just know I can't not watch Jessica Alba.

Ha! I went back to the Youtube home page and it's already showing more new stuff. Can't say they don't listen.
