First results on grille block on my 1.4TDi Fabia are encouraging - not had time for anything too rigorous yet but on my commute I can return 80-82mpg (imperial, on-board computer) where it was 75mpg before.

As far as the whole tank is concerned, its looking like my first 700miler- will know next week. (45litre tank).

So far so good.

Ooh ooh 700 miles.

See the different between 1.4 and 1.9 (3cyl vs 4).

Managed a 68mpg (imperial) tank, almost a 700 mile tank but not quite.

What was your remaining range when you filled up ?

I chickened out at 35 miles remaining, or rather I surrendered to the Mrs pestering...

I got 53 for my last tank which is annoying as >50% of it was a couple of long trips both with an average of >65. 635 miles for me.

Also is your tank vented ?

I had 50 miles remaining I think, wanted to fill with "cheap" fuel (less than £1.35 a litre). I've taken it to 15 miles once before- and I guess there is a safety factor built in!

It was "nearly 700 miles" IF I had run it dry

I don't think the tank is vented, I read about this on tdiclub. There's no button thingy to press like I had on a Citroen.

Need to find the time to do some rear wheel fairings now!

What are your journeys like, mine are mostly suburban with a little bypass...

Journeys - I'm lucky in that I don't have much start-stop urban driving.

I've looked at the overall fuel use on my commute, rather than mpg, and best choice of routes is a twisty B-road that is the shortest route, and includes a small town. Better even than steady 60mph on motorway over a much longer distance.

Just upgraded my grille block from coroplast to black foam-in-the-grille-gaps

I have changed the start of my journey from a main road crawl to a backroad with a bad light at the end. Why ? Well on the crawl I spend a lot of time idling as it never really stops long enough to shut off. Now I can get to the end and wait in between greens with the engine off.

If I can work out a similar route for the homeward leg I may be able to get the figure up.

See, I'm confused re the "bad light"..

My commute takes me to a bad light within 1 mile of me setting off in the morning..Car is not up to temp so i've always wondered- engine OFF or on?
