Im interested to know how the clutch will hold up long term!

Clutch is 240mm sachs race disc plus pressure plate which should hold up to 600Nm of torgue so that wont break with these power figures. Gearbox and other drivertrain can hold about 500 hp.

Weakest link is the engines aluminium block which will break sooner or later, but that is knows fact for me: I just need to build the next engine stronger and better.

On that best tank 70 km were suburbs with traffic ligths etc and rest highway. But the route had speedcameras so I had to make unecessary brakings also there.

This can go under 4 liters at current state at 100 km/h speed.

Comparison - my 1.6 TDI Passat can go ~75MPG at 60-65 MPH which is in the same range as your A8 figures.

For town driving weight is the killer - Kerb weight for the A8 on Wiki is 3,600lb or more, the Passat B7 is 3,300 ish - obviously specific weights are tricky as you've stripped stuff out and I'm on a diet, again...

I'm only adding this as a comparison though.

I like this concept of a very small engine, coupled with a powerful electric motor. Most cars, when you think about it, are ridiculously overpowered.

What does a car require to cruise at 80 mph? I believe even a large one uses maybe 30-40 hp.

I would guess that this A8 will cruise comfortably at 100 mph with this little TDI and the electric motor will give it very nice acceleration for short stretches. 400hp engines are nice for sustained 140 mph runs, but wasteful otherwise.

I think we are going to see hybrid systems go more in this direction in the next few years. What size is the current prius engine? Pretty sure it is at least a 1.2, maybe more. Give it a bigger electric motor, a little more battery and drop it down to about 750 cc. It will lower max sustained speeds, but, you don't buy a prius to cruise the autobahn/

just looked it up. a new prius has a 1.8. Seems quite overpowered to me.

Bare in mind Toyota increased the Prius engine size for the 3rd gen to improve HWY fuel economy.

Having owned one I have to say it's really quite underpowered with the 1.8 even in PWR mode which doesn't last long anyway.

My 1.6 TDI feels much more pokey, and can do that any time I like.

On Vekke's other thread "Audi A8..registered.." we established a weight of 3240 Lbs. Maybe thats because of aluminum monocoque body and reduced engine weight. It has up sized turbo for a Mark 4 1.9 TDI on his 1.2 TDI so its capable of moving the standard car nicely even without e-assist.

Any advise for dieting without effecting mental acuity would be greatly appreciated. At 48 I have to be ultra stringent to see any reduction. I could stand to loose 50 lbs but I'm not that long suffering.
