Found a few imported Toyota 4runners and Mitsubishi pajeros. Anybody know anything about the diesel SUVs? Can't find mpg info on them. What I find is uk mpg which is different

Also, I found a mini pajero. Rare, made for 3 years only, has a 1.1l engine!

Oh, I see.

After rereading the original post, I see this is in relation to a discussion you had with your brother. It seems to be merely a matter of curiosity - are there any 4WD diesels out there??

Precious few, apparently.

If someone wants to find a 4WD diesel, please tell us for what purpose. Not that there is no use for such a thing, but since they are so uncommon, the need might be met by some other configuration.

FWIW, a friend of mine has or had a US Military truck that was basically a Suburban, with a diesel V8 and a 24V electrical system. Yes, it is/was 4WD. There may have been civilian equivalents, minus the 24V system and plus a few creature comforts.

Fine for those who live in flatlands. Hereabouts we tend to keep snow on the mountains, so most of the time studded snow tires are just chewing up the roads.

Not necessarily trucks. I wanted an all wheel drive jetta or passat that is diesel. Nothing like that around. Looked around for others but see nothing. Mitsubishi has a 2.5l diesel and Toyota has a 3.0l suv. Those I'm curious about

I have a jeeP grand Cherokee now. Doubt I'll ever get another one. It's falling apart at 120000 miles. Head gasket, heater core, rear axle and or transfercase and really, really crappy mpg. 15.5 average from a 4L inline 6

You're right - there really doesn't seem to be much around.

4WD because you have mountains or snow and ice or ???

He he. Now the weather it turning colder the local Audi seller has ads on the radio saying things like "remember how anyone with 4 wheel drive sailed through the snow last year...".

Except they didn't. I had to go via the M8 before it was stuck and the only cars in the ditches were an Audi Q7 and a crew cab Nissan truck.
