seafoam works well but water is cheaper than $10 a bottle!
I have been seeing my mpg going down in my truck too. I think it is time for a rebuild considering I have no idea how many miles are on this truck and it works hard. I will check the compression when I do plugs this week.

Idk if water works exactly the same as seafoam but the reason I chose seafoam is because it was (and still might be) on sale at orielys for 6 dollars and it seams like there is a lightly less chance of hydro locking your engine and seafoam has an oily part to it that doesn't evaporate right away which allows it to sit and break down your carbon for a little while.

seafoam consists of diesel, isopropyl alcohol and naphthalene.

None of which can dissolve carbon

How 'bout that--diesel fuel, bad moonshine and mothballs...
So how does that snake foam/sea oil supposedly work--i'm not aware of any solvent for carbon...
i believe it works-- like a transfer function. To transfer money from your pocket to theirs.

Diesel is great at cleaning crap out of motors and fuel lines. I have an old outboard that was completely clogged with crap and the diesel took it right out.
I like to run diesel through the truck too. I dump a few gallons into a tank.
Runs great and smells better too. Might be me, but my butt-o-meter says it gives a few more ponies. I will be making my own sea foam from now on.

well, moonshine would be ethanol alcohol..... probably with a bit of methanol in it unintentionally as well.
but yeah, fairly simple.

ever run an engine on the threshold of detonation compared to one that's not quite as close? the difference is unbelievable. personally, even with knock sensors, i'd rather not risk the engine.

It is a 300-6 and is nowhere near detonation in its stock form.
I like the diesel because it cleans it out and keeps things lubed.

I've seen loads of good writeups from guys who have used Seafoam.
I've used it several times but it did not fix the problems my engine had at the time. On the other hand, it caused no damage either.
My Civic engine turned out to need a proper head rebuild. One valve was badly burned, it needed four (or eight??) valves replaced, and piston tops were hard-coated with carbon buildup - I removed that with a brush head on a Dremel type tool.
Anyway, I've seen loads of guys who love Seafoam and I wouldn't hesitate to use it. I use Marvel Mystery Oil in my fuel, at half the concentration the bottle recommends. But that's another story. You can read about MMO on bobistheoilguy.com if you care to.

I am not saying it doesn't work. But if I need some I can make it.
