Sweet car. Once you get started on the mods it could probably do with a full belly pan. Be sure to use an electric fan and ducted radiator... and one of those 100mpg carbs

if your not going to keep it stock, consider the 4.0l with any of the manuals that came with it (5 or 6 speed).

re: those would be some neat mods and not affect the outside of the vehicle. i want it to look stock.

if your not going to keep it stock, consider the 4.0l with any of the manuals that came with it (5 or 6 speed).

re: the 4.0 swap is very common for these cars as are the 72- v8 swaps. only problem with the jeep transmissions is that its difficult to find 2wd stick transmissions. lots of guys use the fuel injection too which gives great torque and some guys are even running turbos with megasquirt injection but this car will not get near that much invested

the ax-15(nv3500 is a modified ax-15) is an off shoot of the r150 series used in toyota's; now the 6 speed is some other creature that isn't a relative of anything else that might be more of a problem.

I have no experience with the ax-15. Is that common in 2wd form? I've seen the guts to a nv3500 and I wouldn't be interested in somthing like that. They are common in 90s gm trucks and the nv45

nv4500 is common in newer dodge trucks. its such an easy swap to the mustang t5 and i have all the parts for it already thats why i was going that route. and they are proven to last to some decent horsepower in stock version. with the little 258 it will drive and shift like a new car.

Make a plug out of the metal part of a spark plug. Install a grease fitting in the center of the plug. Put it in a cylinder that has both valves closed. Start pumping grease in that cylinder and you can unstick that engine.

Personally I would put the GM 4 cylinder engine in it, the one that is used in a lot of marine applications, with FI and a 5 speed, in that light weight car it would do very well if you could get a nice tall differential ratio.

That's an idea I've never heard!!! With the grease. Same principle as the pilot bushing grease technique. Does it work well?

You might want think about an overdrive. My first car was a 63 Rambler classic, with the under square 195.6 I6 engine. Your engine is over square. The later jeep 4 cylinder engines are AMC, 86-2001, 2.5 liter, unfortunately they are over square also. I just rebuilt one this past summer, a fairly simple engine with a few quirks. You will have to read up on bell housing compatibility. (as you might guess, I prefer under square engines)

Boys and girls, this is what happens when your wife drives the jeep home with no coolant: AMC I4 cracked head and a hole in #3 piston

I've done several 63 classics with the 195.6 they are fun. The mustang 5 speed would be the overdrive. I'm not going 4 cylinder there's no need to. My 74 hornet with a 1 bbl 258 got 18 mpg around town untuned and using points
