There is opportunity here for a 3D printed shell that incorporates multi-materials (bronze bushings) in a single piece. The suspension arms can be tuned for compliance to the road and Voronoi cells in the mounting points could dampen the harshness.

Yup - once I get mine, I will be looking at mods - and possibly a new shell.

I remember your adventures with CARBen, collapsed garage and all. I'm trying to find someone that will listen to me about formless construction. Arcimoto is too preoccupied right now.

Without their BFL, one would make a template that lays out holes at the vertexes and use a pneumatic nibbler to make the cuts in between [leaving flaps]. Before or after using a narrow roller on a rubber bed to score the other edges.

Then the flaps are lapped and pop-riveted for an Airstream look, else double-flapped and riveted inside for a seamless look. It could be pieced togehter in other ways, like a central band and nose and tail caps.

So what do you think?

My PEBL is under construction, and is now almost finished. Here is the shell on the frame:

And just recently:

Forgive the rewind to older comments ... but I recently saw a question about bronze bushings in a thread for off-road UTVs.

What's the thing with bronze bushings? Bronze is a bit softer than steel .. is it supposed to wear less? Take mud and build-up better?

It squeaks less?

All I know is the urban legend that VW Beetle owners in SoCal drilled out their hinges and inserted valve guides. [shrug]

Softer, won't wear away the steel that rubs against it. Holds oil; presumably porous. Won't rust. Good for solid/strong mounting of things that need to move but don't spin fast.
