I was talking about making a cross out of metal at the steering tube. Make it about 10" out to each side and further out the front. Will give you something to attach the coroplast too.
As far as your current design, most of the benefit would be to the sail effect. In other words you would get a push in any cross wind. If you want to extend it more in front of you that might help aero wise too. Think of the aero bars that are on time trial bikes. They are getting some splitter effect from having the arms out in front. What difference do you see from stock with your current design.
