The recumbent will have less air drag than a typical upright. A time trial set up is close.
I have settled on 44/50T chain rings to go with the 13/16T sprockets on the 3 speed hub. A Sunlite handle bar bag mounted horizontally on top of the bars between the home made aero bars blocks much of the air that would pile up under my chest.

I found this in your album. Very cool.
Maybe needs a bike rack?

I just said that to stay on topic. I saw a similarity to this:

Skegs, right?
I posted the rack on my Superbeetle. It's very convenient. The same bike fits in the Dasher, but I have to roll it in backwards on it's side on the rear tire.

Jack-Lee going 26 mph on a recumbent is respectable speed. An upright with a full fairing does the about same. Any observations about riding in traffic? I am interested in the optimal height for lights.

Not a real problem. But many people say "your so low, i cant see you!". Interesting : 55000km with ultra low recumbent -> 0 crashes
6000km upright -> get three times "overlook"...
And my "winterbike" drives 55km/h with my 200Watts

Just traded my 3-speed bike for this 18-speed el cheapo bike, and similar one unassembled still in the box.
Planning on to cycle half of my 30km commute.
No springs, just v-brakes but it'll do

I'm an MTB instructor and I'm fortunate enough to have 8 bikes of various types in the garage. However, my favourite, my old faithful, my go to bike is my 1983 Claud Butler. The 531 frame provides a beautiful smooth ride, and the bike is quite efficient, it just glides along for minimal input.
