Recently bought this beauty from a thrift shop for 30 euros. Plan is to put new tires, saddle, brake pads and that handlebar strap-thingy whatsit.
This bike is finnish made, Nopsa President 12-speed. No clue what year it is.

It looks light. The welds suggest an aluminum frame.

latest junk bike
Sadly, my second Pirate Bike disappeared a week ago. This will be its replacement as my around-town junk bike:
This is my 5th junk bike that was being thrown away by a neighbour. (By now the neighbourhood should know to just drop off the old bikes at my driveway!)
Needs: blinky lights, mirror, splash guards, rear basket.
Sadly, it's only a 6-speed. Its predecessors were 18 & 21.

The Nopsa tubing diameter looks like a steel frame compared to my aluminum Jamis Aragon. A quick check with a magnet tells the tale. Most peole lose the inboard brake levers. I put extra padding under the handle bar tape.
In the relatively flat 1000 islands a 36T or 38T chain ring and a 28T rear should be adequate. The only time I use my low 28T chain ring is on our elevated bridges or steep hills. But then I'm getting old.

You are correct, sir -- all steel. It's a bottom-rung cheap department store bike.
The gearing is adequate, yes. But I'm lazy, and I find I'm missing the granny gear the previous bike had!

Freebeard and Grant, i had to go inspect the bike with a magnet. Steel frame allright, all the other bits and pieces are aluminum though.
And yes, it is fairly light too.

I was phishing for a weight.
In my defense it was a small picture. The weld look unfilleted, as aluminum frame usually are. Aluminum often has a bigger oval down tube.

11.3kg, measured on a people-scale so maybe not the most accurate result

11.3 kg is about 25 lb. That is common for this type of bike. I have done testing and calibration as an engineering tech for 25 years. You never know what will surprise you next. That's why we say "test don't guess". I consider freebeard and MetroMPG master ecomodders of good reputation.
