Might as well link this here:

Tesla is having a battery investor day in April. Looks like they are on to something.

I'll look it up tonight if I remember.

EDIT: Found the Ted Talk:

The takeaway is that a 120 mile range EV will begin emitting less lifetime CO2 than a comparable ICE after 80k miles. A 400 mile range EV would need to be driven 450k miles to emit less CO2 than a comparable ICE.

Then I just stumbled onto this Bjorn video:

Then there's the more optimistic video from EE saying 2-8 years of driving for an EV to beat an ICE in CO2 emissions.

As far as the 0.30 CD it was a tweet, where Musk said that with great effort the Cd could be reduced to 0.30.

Which means the Cybertruck as shown is nowhere near .30. The most advanced models I have seen tested put it closer to .4 and those still didn't include mirrors or wipers.

Remember folks that Semi, Plaid, Roadster and CT all require a new battery technology. Trucking companies simply won't buy a Semi with the current battery life (and replacement cost of a 1MWh battery). We're basically talking about the same quantity of materials used, but a doubling of capacity.

You mean the most 'advanced' models you choose to believe in. My van is a box and it's at .33. I don't see how a CT could be worse. You keep banging on about mirrors when it's clear the CT won't have mirrors. If the US doesn't change it's laws soon, it will be the only market in the world requiring them. I mean even Australia is getting cameras, and we're a third world backwater.

We like to be different:
  • We still ban advanced headlights that have been used in the EU since 2013.
  • We are behind the times on crash standards.
  • We still use an archaic system of random measures instead of the metric system.

The NHTSA requested money in 2019 to study mirror cams. We are years away from them making a decision.

Perhaps the 'great effort' is not achieving a 0.10 delta, but in finagling a limited production process?

Everybody is going on about mirrors. But Tesla has shown a patent for laser windshield wipers.

electrek.co: Tesla wants to use laser beams to automatically clean debris off cars – Yes really
