Boat tail project based on a single wheel trailer...

Cut one panel down to 24" long and attached it in place of the 48" panels. I'll still have to install a strip of flashing to the tub lid so the back of the panels won't wear into the tub lid. I'll be going on a road test later this afternoon. If this doesn't work out, I can always install the remaining 48" panel in the middle and use the 24" panels on the side.







Backing up the driveway...you can see how the wheel drops the back end down. I might have to extend the front edge of the tub lid...





I might have to install a gap cover fer the upper gap cover, too. I'll probably just use one of the remaining vinyl baseboards.

A quick cut of a previously failed gap cover and some adhesive...presto! Instant protection!

A quick drive around town reveals that the top gap cover is staying down and in place while at speed. Not sure how much air will cause it to flip up but I'm not gonna worry about it too much as the cover can't flip up and over on the hatch so it should fall back down on its own.

Where the longer 48" cover was flipping up on the outside edges, I haven't noticed the 24" long flipping or fluttering at all.

Revamped the top gap cover. I originally overlapped the clear panels so I ended up trying to see through the two panels. I spread them apart with just only one bar overlapping in the middle and using some metal strapping...bent the sides to better match the contours of the aero cap to trailer. I still have to run to Home Depot to pick up some #8 bolts and nyloks to hold the pieces down. I'll pick up some teflon sliders fer chairs to install at the back end so the screws don't rub through the protective flashing. Hopefully it won't be making a bunch of noise back there as I drive down the road.







I had to replace the wiring converter as my left turn signal was weak while the brake light was fine. Picked up the U-haul $17 version and wired it right into my Hopkins harness. Works perfect now...

Ended up with some rubber feet instead of the teflon ones. After I installed them, I had to adjust the back metal strips in the back to allow fer clearance when the trailer slides/wiggles in the back. The feet promptly snagged the flashing protection and ripped up one edge. Guess I'm going without any sort of protection on top. Maybe some grease will help?

No noise from the feet as far as I can tell. Looks like it's a keeper.

Disaster! Left one of the landing legs down and didn't realize it until the wheel was completely ground away. Looks like I'll be hunting down a welding shop to weld a plate on the leg as I do have a spare wheel with me.

Got an indicated 27mpg just 1.5 hours out from home. Currently sitting at an indicated 26.6mpg out to Lafayette, LA.

Drizzle and rain has dropped the indicated MPG down to 24mpg on the drive to Biloxi, MS. No other problems so far.
