A cost effective rim source would be space saver spare rims. Many now have 18x4, with a few currently only having 19's (mainly the higher end porsches etc). These can be had dirt cheap used, since there is currently nearly zero demand. I looked at a parallel situation for running MiEV tires.

There has been some discussion about the differences between 26 and 29 inch wheels and tyres on mountain bikes as the 29 inch size is fairly new. It seems that the shape of the contact patch is important to grip as well as its area

Will donut wheels hold up to every day use? I asked the question and was returned no.

compact spares are not constructed for mileage. they are a temp measure. a tire built for 50-80,000 miles has a diff compound, ply pattern, bead material, etc...

I think (?) the question was about the rim, to be used with the Bridgestone tire.

And the answer for the rim is the same as for the tire. The rim is built as a temporary measure. It is weaker than a normal wheel.

maybe i missed it... why do they want large diameter wheels?

I have always assumed that tires were lighter than wheels, so always go with the smallest wheel for lower rotational inertia.

also larger sidewalls are much more comforatble that lo profile tires.

is this a LRR thing?
