You have really moved this along in less than a month. Nice work, don't let the naysayers get you down.

looks like it's coming along well.

did you give any thought to going with a MC rear engine and drive? I think doing so would lighten it considerable and more importantly, allow you to clean up the front end airflow considerably. i think 1000 lbs is easily doable using such a drivetrain. i doubt this is the case using the civic drivetrain.

i think a klr 650 drivetrain would do. they are bulletproof and there are bazillions of them around. another option would be a drz400. a buddy of mine has one and it gets very good mileage.

why don't you build one. let everyone else know how it goes.

I hope I gave more thought to my project then you did to your post.

side vent is, well, honestly to make it look a LOT better. Without the sidevent there is a HUGE expanse of big lower body with nothing to break it up.

one idea was to cut out the back wheel so you could see it better, but that REALLY messes up the air flow.

If we make a fake air scoop, I can do it so it doesn't really disrupt air flow, but completely changes the body lines so it can look cool.

oh ok... i thought this was going to be a "form equals function" design. if its for looks then ok.

I have a question though. "if" I was to follow you and build my own. I would not care about a passenger. So building a single seater with a small area for storage. what do you think of the weight savings and the rough length it would end up being? also just your .02 on that.

obviously, you have given much more thought. the extent of my thought was pretty much....

....how is frontal area gonna be 10 sq ft with what is basically a civic front end with a skinny windshield.

....how is weight gonna be anything close to 1000 lbs when the drivetrain alone is close to half that, especially if it has to be robust enough to carry two lard asses.

....both those areas could be addressed by going to a light simple and cheap MC drivetrain

....why is this guy such an arrogant POS who seems more interested in belittling posters who are just asking questions or giving opinions than in discussing his build?

Oh, and a bit of advice for your website. When you start your "about me" section with, "I'm Doug, I have a high IQ", most people immediately think, hmmm, what a D-bag. Coming here and reading your posts just reinforces that impression.

Good luck with your build anyway. I doubt it will hit any of the goals you have, but, it does look like it might be pretty neat anyway.

Oh, and one more thing.

I too wondered about that ridiculous fake scoop.

There for aesthetics?

Really?

The weight of at least one of the lard asses should be included in the performance calculations.

"Aesthetics"...
