My camper has 4.80-8 tires on it. But I suspect these will be swapped between the two.
To tow the camper behind my Jeep, I have to take the axle out and put it under the springs. Then to go back to the car, axle has to come back out and back over the springs. Now I can just leave it spring under axle and put on bigger tires if it needs to go behind the jeep.
But those little tires really spin fast going down the road!

With all the stupidity and neglect I see with trailers in the states a little more regulation wouldn't be a bad thing or at least just start enforcing the laws we already have.

Now may not be the time to call for more regulation. Maybe eco-mod the consciousness of the gen-pop?

Cosmoline is the genericized trademark for a generic class of rust inhibitors, typically conforming to United States Military Standard MIL-C-11796C Class 3, that are a brown colored wax-like mass; have a slight fluorescence; and have a petroleum-like odor and taste (as detected when working with it).

In NY trailers require a yearly inspection where they check lights and bearings.

Ugh, I would hate that. The way our state does it is you pay a one time fee for permanent plates, no inspection ever. Then we have laws that say trailers need lights. The trailers without lights get tickets and lawful/responsible users aren't inconvenienced. It's a beautiful thing. The law of physics takes care of bad bearings, besides a bearing that checked fine a mile before can still fail. I've personally had 3 failures in my life and they were all inspected and repacked within the year.

In NM a lot of people don't have light and run them till a wheel falls off.
The police here are too lazy to ticket trailers with no lights.

So don't punish the police or the lazy lawbreakers but punish everyone doing it right which still won't fix the bad trailers as now they will just run them without plates.

Loading up lawn mower trailers sky high on 10" tires and running them hundreds of highway miles is a treasured South Texas tradition. If foreign born one need only run the four ways and one is magically exempt from road law. Not a day passes one cannot find an example. A favorite truck driver pastime is collecting and comparing photos of such.

When I lived in Virginia I never saw garbage like I have seen here on public roads. It starts with the police enforcing the law equally on everyone, but they would all have to learn Spanish first.

Maybe that's because in Virginia, the kudzu covers it all?
