If you get the Fit in manual, it's geared oddly short. But that and the Elantra would top my list. The rest are "meh" in my book. I'm going to guess it's the Elantra for you as well? It's one heck of a car for the money.

I'll be sorry to see you part with the HX. They're cool cars.

I would go for the Yaris iA, not even a chance for the other cars. I started off without looking at that list, and forgot about the iA. A small mazda sedan? Um, yes please!

Fiesta 1.0 is gone, so fiesta was off the list for me. The redesigned 2016+ chevrolet spark lost its cute appeal for me(and the 1.2 liter), so nah. Mirage would probably be my second choice if I HAD to get a 2018. 3 cylinders sound cool, and I4s are kind of boring. There are so many interesting cars I want to own/drive, and I don't want to be stuck with a plain I4(And then my first choice was an I4....).

I spent a week with the Accent. It's solid. So much more car than the previous version.

Thanks for the eagle eyes on the Rio numbers! I use the EPA stats and messed up when typing the post. It's fixed now. I owe you a sticker!

Oh wait, it looks like you epa numbers are off. Still it looks good, just not a mpg king especially around town. Should be 28 city 38 highway and 32 combined. The Rio is wrong as well or are those your ratings not EPA?

I like the Fit, but it's #3 on this list. If hauling cargo was the priority, it would be #1.

Bingo!

Elantra Eco would be #1 hands-down, but it's only available with a dual-clutch automatic. Strong warranty, steep discounts. I want something with GDI and a turbo to play with octane. If only it had a manual …

I would keep the HX forever if I had a barn to hide it in. My family hates the car.

It's a Tie!

The Yaris iA is the most enjoyable to drive, but sadly it's NA.

I keep coming back to the Fiesta. It hits the checkboxes: small turbo, manual, hatch. I'd go for the ST if I had the dough. (So much fun to drive!) But the 1.0L can be tuned to produce more HP than the 1.6L produces stock. So it could be a poor man's ST without too much effort/expense.

I friggin love forced induction! Having owned a supercharged Ion Redline for some time, I can’t praise it highly enough(WHEN it’s running)

For this reason exactly, I do badly wanted a nice SFE hatch... but alas, I can no longer afford to be looking seriously at new cars...

Is the Cruze still around with a 1.4t and six-speed? I was impressed by the auto versions I drove in its first gen.

I get the turbo appeal - both those Cruzes and the 2.0 Ecoboost rental Escape I had were tempting dual-personality vehicles. I allegedly laid down a solid 50yd black stripe in the Escape and still made a mid-high 30s average transiting from Dallas to Memphis. But driving a turbo for a living as a trucker, I guess I'm jaded on the turbo thing (though I have tons of classic turbo lag to deal with - a 2-3sec delay as it spools).
