Just picked up a 97 civic hx with 100k on it. Love it so far. Lookin for ideas on fuel econ stuff
So far on my av mpg is 45
Highest it 56 mpg.

Welcome to the forum. There are a bunch of simple and even free things you can start with. I run my 1998 Civic DX's tires, on 13" VX wheels, at 60 psi (when hot). There is a longstanding argument on here about it, but those of us who do it have reported no problems. Mine have been like this for two years or more.

Slow down... and is this a manual transmission or auto? That changes other recommendations...

It's manual, I have the low friction Eco tires set at 50. I was looking at the k&n drop in filter is it worth it?

Simple answer:

1) If engine has carburetor, then YES a low-restriction air filter is an improvement.

2) If engine has fuel-injection, then NO a low-restriction air filter is not an improvement.

Why, you ask? Carburetor "works" on air-pressure differential and a clogged air filter will decrease the air-pressure acting upon the fuel venturi jets. With fuel-injection, air-pressure (or lack of it) is nolonger a problem because the engine electronics "measures" incoming air flow (or air mass) coming into the engine (ahead of the intake manifold) and automatically "compensates" for clogged, lower flowing, air filters.

Awesome info thanks! How much a diffrence in info will I get if I get the obdII gauge over the mpguino?

An mpguino gives you superior mpg estimates. But that's all it gives. A scanguage or ultragauge will give you good(not perfect) mpg data, but it will offer a score of other measures. the ultragauge is cheaper than the scan gauge and in my opinion better looking.

How hard is the mpguino? I'm not good with soldering do they sell plug and play kits?
