I shot this solo, with a conventional tripod for the longer shots, and a tiny flex tripod for the ground level shots.

There's minimal overspray on the headlights. Couldn't find a roll of masking tape! I'll be buffing them out before I dip the car again.

Lots of crazy cool options out there for resin/fabric work these days. The sheet-release stuff is pricey. I've thought about adding a layer of carbon/kelvar over the top, after everything's smoothed out.

Back in the 60s, (probably) Mechanix Illustrated magazine ran a story about squeegeeing resin out under sheet Mylar plastic, that just peels off after the resin cures. I don't use the stuff (fiberglass) myself, but it seems likely to save a lot of sanding.

That's awesome man. It looks good. One thing I've learned from this website is not to be afraid about screwing with my car. I'm going to do some touchup paint today. If it doesn't come out good, who cares? I'll redo it. A couple years ago, I would have been afraid to try.

Suspicions confirmed then. The perfect is the enemy of it seemed like a good idea at the time.

The thing I'm interested in for composites is basalt. Here's an aftermarket airdam for the Tesla that uses it: Larte Design use basalt fiber in Tesla S bumpers - Basalt Guru

During the development of the bumpers, Larte used innovative materials composed of basalt fiber, a material of volcanic origin... Materials made of basalt fiber have higher impact resistance and toughness and have shock-absorbing characteristics as well. Basalt fiber is eco-friendly and doesn’t emit any harmful chemicals into the water or air. It also has a higher strength-to-weight ratio, which makes the outer parts of the car (bumpers, spoilers, etc.) stronger and lighter.

Due to such impressive properties, basalt fiber is used to manufacture bulletproof vests. These materials are also widely spread in the aviation and space industry. This is extremely important for the production of car components in order to ensure safety in the event of a crash. Furthermore, components made of basalt fiber are resistant to severe natural conditions: moisture, salt solutions, alkali and acids.

that video was great! narration and effects were spot on.
never thought about using spray adhesive to hold fiberglass before resin. I will be using that.

Thanks, Deejaaa!

I watched a video that used the spray adhesive technique to apply hand laid carbon fiber on an interior door skin and a big lightbulb lit up over my head.
