Civic Hatch vs CRX

the slope of the CRX, and the 6th model civic (- the wing) seem similiar

what rules out the 6th gen over the seeminly more popular 5th gen model?

I'm pretty sure everyone is going to say the crx is the best, the 6th generation civic has a rear slope bu it is also a bigger car then the 5th generation, taller wider, heavier, but of course I don't have the number of the CD of it.

I think the difference is .30 for the CRX and .36 for the hatch, so yeah, go with the CRX,

After that the 5th gen is the slipperier car. Plus lighter weight, better drivetrains available.

I figured weight would be the deciding factor


but lets say you got the 5th and 6th gen to the same weight (with the same tires)

is the 6th gens slope enough to make a difference?

or is the angle slightly off?

so if you drop weight in the 6th gen

the drivetrain is the deciding factor

Don't you mean .36 for the sixth generation hatch ?

When the 5th generation hatches came out, I think it was Road & Track that quoted their Cd at .31 for the hatch and .32 for the coupe * - with the VX slightly lower due to the underbody fairing in front of the bumper.


( This surprised me when I first read it, since I always thought that the coupe would be the sleeker of the two. )

I think you might be remembering the .36 figure from the article that was posted at Insight Central. It compared the efficiency of the then new Insight to the Civic Hatcback, yet did not give the year of the hatchback mentioned.
Since the article would have been written when the 6th generation hatch was out, it would make sense that they were talking about the 6th generation car.

Also, the 5th generation car has a longer roofline than the 6th which usually helps aero.

I seem to remember the Cd figures for the last generation CRX at between .31,.30,and .29 ( .31 for the base CRX, .30 for the mirror delete cars, and .29 for the HX model without the mirror, rear wiper and slimmer tires. )

Yeah, that would be a good idea. I keep thinking a table of "relevant eco-parameters" that could be filled in by members. The person that filled in the value would be "associated" with the eco-parameter. If someone wants to change the value, they would have to "contest" the original value, maybe sparking an auto-thread. That seems like a forum class all it's own, where the threads would link directly to the value in the table. It would also be hard to classify the cars egg-zactly. My car has 3 generations * two different weights based on auto/stickshift transmission * two engine choices.

Hmmmmm, maybe one member would be given "control" of one class of car. They would fill-in values as best they can, and the details would "grow" over time with other user's input. For instance, SVOBoy knows CRX's quite well, so he could build a good CRX attribute database.

I'm not a web programmer, but it seems like a PITA to program.
