When the 5th generation hatches came out, I think it was Road & Track that quoted their Cd at .31 for the hatch and .32 for the coupe * - with the VX slightly lower due to the underbody fairing in front of the bumper.
( This surprised me when I first read it, since I always thought that the coupe would be the sleeker of the two. )
I think you might be remembering the .36 figure from the article that was posted at Insight Central. It compared the efficiency of the then new Insight to the Civic Hatcback, yet did not give the year of the hatchback mentioned.
Since the article would have been written when the 6th generation hatch was out, it would make sense that they were talking about the 6th generation car.
Also, the 5th generation car has a longer roofline than the 6th which usually helps aero.
I seem to remember the Cd figures for the last generation CRX at between .31,.30,and .29 ( .31 for the base CRX, .30 for the mirror delete cars, and .29 for the HX model without the mirror, rear wiper and slimmer tires. )
