Get yourself a couple of quilts from a thrift store to cover them on forcasted below 34 degree nights. I use harbour fright tarps with decent success. Then there's ice wine....

Harbor Freight also sells blankets! However, as far as I call tell, the 20% off coupons are long gone.

WYeah they appear to survive the freezes, but it can ruin your year. It kills the grapes and leaves if it's an early fall freeze or kill any leaves out if it's a spring freeze.
The vines appear to be getting wise to the wacky NM weather. The vines I have got frozen while still at lowes, had a bunch of budding leaves freeze off, now the leaves are coming out slowly and randomly. As if to be cautious against another freeze.

I am pretty sure that the frost destroys the process that makes buds and allows them to grow. I also know that temperature varies widely in a couple of inches, so some parts probably saw lower temps.
The other problem is buying stuff held under some sort of a roof which will prevent frost from hitting the plant. Ill bet you have them out in the field sans any environmental modifications.

The vines haven't been planted yet, still in the original black plastic lowes plant holder and they will probably end up in a big out door planter pot.

Yeah tomorrow's forecast is potentially freezing.
The grapes are definitely going in a big out door planting pot, this can go on up to another month.

I bet that miracle $2.80 a gallon gas in California is but a distant happy memory of better times.
If gas prices went up as much there as they did here then California should be closing in on $4 a gallon.
