I don't think anyone's cheating either... it was just a funny tag line for the thread. I do think that we should all use the same sticker values at 45/55 though, so people can baseline what the car should be at.... and then see how much better ecomodding and eco driving can get it from there. That was my only beef with it. It threw me for a loop trying to figure out how someone with the same car and only getting a few more MPG could be at 70% over EPA.

Here's a link to a page on that same website that has a calculator to convert older cars to the new EPA standard as well: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/calculator.html

OMFG !!! If some of you want to have some real fun, sign up on that site and maintain a fuel log there. I entered some going back to June of this year and when my MPG's got above 40, their system kept telling me to check my numbers because there is some thing wrong ...

YEAH !!! YOUR EPA RATINGS .... LOL

Just my 2 cents, I would be in favor of everyone using the 45/55 standard since carefully planning your driving route is an integral part of hypermiling. Thus showing how you improved over the epa averages.

I estimated based on % "highway" vs. "city." If I used the new EPA numbers, I'd be showing a much better improvement, but what I want to know is what I achieve in comparison with the "average" driver in my vehicle and with my starting points and destinations.

I am using the old EPA numbers on both of my garage entries. I think that is what I should be using since that is what the rating for the cars were when manufactured. Even at that I am 22.1% above EPA on the '88 Escort and 44.4% above EPA on the '97 Escort Station Wagon, but probably about 85-90% of the miles logged on the '97 since I started logging fill-ups are highway miles, because I basically use that car for highway trips of 500+ miles.

Their really is some outrageous mistakes, not the peoples but EPA. To this day, my own humble example is the carbed 3 main subarus, as by far the most extremely wrongly written cars ever. It goes along with the cars sabotaged history, but is defending others who have real mileage over doubled EPA...with no mods. It is not common, but does happen. the 3cyl GEO is yet another one, (the carbed one). I am one with nearly no mods but to make it todays standard. (No crazy extras)...and it doubles epa all the time 23 years later...original...
It would be to take on a bigger picture and realize, all the high mpgers are extincted in production...and written wrongfully by EPA simultaneous. Capitalist beware..there is 200 million people on to your boardrooms...
