For those of you who think arbitrarily adding EGR is a good thing I suggest you read the following.

Although in some cases it is possible to get better mileage with EGR on a diesel it takes just the right amount, coordinated with the right injection timing, for the particular fuel load and rpm. Otherwise diesel get better mileage without EGR.

I have a crazy cools EGR idea I'd like to try. A classic Gasoline powered VW Bug. Interestingly the first EGR Bugs in California had an air-cooled EGR cooling coil. I was thinking of not only using that, but tapping into the heat riser where the exhaust has already been cooled by running along the intake manifold. The main idea I have with using cooled EGR in a gasoline engine is to lower combustion temps enough in order to run lean at WOT.
