Although the sample is way to small... I did a 100km trip today, and used 3.2L, at average speeds over 100km/hr, with short burst to over 140km/hr, 10C air temp, windy, with new 17T front sprocket [16T stock], and extensions to the fairing. This is quite promissing if it continuse. I still have quit a few small detail mods to do. My crude 12:1 scale model, wind tunnel tests suggests that an aproximate 35% reduction in drag is available from modifications to standard fairings.

It looks that your are on the wright track Ron to get to the 2.5 l target. I am curious the hear more about your scaled windtunnel testing. How do you get to the amount of air for such a test? Do have a picture of your installation? Can you test model with and without side opening?

I have gained access to a technical schools wind tunnel and have only begune to test some very basic stuff. I have been quit surprised by the willingness of some schools to allow me to use there facilities without charge, because I am not a business, as I do not have a university degree. I am a Heavey Duty Mechanic. What I do have is interest in the subject and that seems to be enough. The max air speed for the tunnel is 90 ft/sec, 28m/s the test area is aprox 0.6m x 0.6m at some point I will post pics with some data. The design and building of models is time consumming and keeps generating new questions and ideas. so far all I have done is to conferm what I have learned from reading. one test that I did, showed that a block of styrofoam with rounded front end corners with twice the frontal area as a 12:1 scale model Yamaha WR450 had 35% less drag! What I will be testing at some point is the affect of sadle bags/boxes and tank bags on a standard motocycle configuration...

I'm surprised I'm the first to post about disabling the accelerator pump if you've got a CV carb.

What have you gained from this mod? As this carb curcuit is only activated when the throatle is being opened. What type of motorcycle are you modding? How does this mod affect drivability?

i have tried a couple of things on my ninja 250, and i am gonna try a couple more. overall, it doesnt get bad MPG stock, but it could always be better right? anyway, i have installed a factory replacement k&n air filter (mostly for re-useability and because i hate foam filters), 2" rear lowering links, 1" handlebar riser blocks, and a smaller rear sprocket. i plan on installing a larger front sprocket, a sport touring windscreen, LED bulbs, and some custom turbulators. maybe a couple of other things along the way. i do most of my riding at around 65-70 MPH, so my mileage would probably be even better if i rode at 55 and had a lighter wrist. dont know. probably.

I have a friend who was getting 65 MPG from a stock 2001 Triumph ST 3 cylinder. It comes stock with Electronic Fuel Injection. I was thinking this would be a great powerplant for a very low cd 3 wheel vehicle. I think the size was 955 cc.

You can get a used one fairly cheap these days.
