I haven't heard of the 1.5 swap into an Insight. Read it "theorized" a few times, but nobody's done it that I know of.

Going to be our pioneer? I'd subscribe.

Well if i ever find an insight in need of a new heart i'd be the guinnea pig. After thinking about it for a while, it would basically be a crx maybe minus a few hundred pounds. I don't know that the aero would give that much more over a CRX but it would be cool to know. I'd still do a hydro trans, just with the HF gear swapping. I've actually got a vx trans an hf trans, a complete no titled VX car and 2 extra ecu's and a complete VX longblock in pieces, and an extra EGR black box. Ive been waiting for a nice EK hatch with AC to put it in, figured i'd sacrifice a few hundred pounds from the EG to the EK for style and less rust, but then I got to seeing lots of insights online and thought i'd pose the hypothetical question.

There was a 05 insight on ebay from canada last week, in the last 15 seconds i big 6200 and was high bidder at 4000 for 10 seconds till ONLY 1 OTHER PERSON bid higher than 6200, and i lost while it sold for 6300. If that ONE PERSON hadn't bid, id have won the auction at 4000 for an 05 insight. BUMMER.....

How much does an insight way?

I would rather go for a 88-91 Crx HF. Most have swaps now a days so you can easily pay for the cost of a d15z1 swap after you take what ever motor is in out.

Here's the curb weight and CdA for these three cars:
1713lbs, 5.84ft², 84-87 CRX HF
1819-1967lbs, 5.39ft², 88-91 CRX HF
1847-1880lbs, 5.00ft², 2000-06 Insight

The CRX got heavier almost every year from 1988 to 1991 for whatever reasons.

In these parts you would need a functioning OBD 2 system. You would also run into problems with the emissions, since the older VX engine was never designed to meet the standards of the later Insight.

Personally, I would try to replicate the aero modifications of Basjoos, on the original VX body, or use a two door from the same 92-95 time frame.

If I had my VX to do again I would go that route, but since it is already fixed, it will have to wait from another rear end impact. Not sure if I want to wish for that or not.

regards
Mech

I have manual about putting a VX motor in an insight. But some of the instruction is not applicable to put into it.

Where did you find this manual? Can it still be ordered?
