Fresh rubber on the minivan- Goodyear Assurance Fuel Maxes, didn't even have to have a discussion about it. I just told her "I can get the tires I like for it for $144 each." The bummer is that I had gotten a sale flier from one of my suppliers, but the Fuel Max in my size wasn't on sale. I could have gone down a size and spent $109 each, but going down 1.9% would have been counterproductive.

Still, fresh rubber right before the winter is good, and I'm getting excellent wear from the Fuel Maxes I got for my car last December. That and LRR is a good thing.

"Life of Pi" is an amazing film - well worth the few hours to watch it. Also (for once) worth the additional money for 3D.

Had been thinking for 1 1/2 days about getting my motorcycle out for at least a short ride.
Thought today might be the day, but still below freezing.
Took family's garbage up to the entrance to this neighborhood complex as we all do weekly
(about 3/4ths of a mile) The paved road up to that point looked ok, but as I turned my Dad's minivan around on the public paved road to come back, I noticed spots of ice all over that road!!! Very glad I didn't venture out 2 wheelin'!!!

Caught this yesterday, a few houses down the street:

"Officer, what do you mean that my grille block is illegal because it isn't certified? I have this picture in my phone, here, have a look..."

BBC News - Elite video game reboot hits funding target

Quote:
An ambitious plan to update classic space trading game Elite has hit its funding target.

The game first appeared on the BBC Micro in 1984 but one of the game's original creators wanted to make a modern PC version.

David Braben sought £1.25m via crowd-sourcing site Kickstarter to fund the 21st century update.

I have to admit-I get stressed out a lot these days. Laid off from work, living off my life savings (never enough), watching my nation trot headlong towards the high precipice of ruin...you just feel so-helpless, pressure building until your head throbs and it's...just too much, y'know?

So when I get that depressed, there's only one thing that can make me smile- I grab a sharp, slender blade and feel the cool steel competence of it nestled in my palm, a custom fit...and the blade is hand-ground tool steel over 80 years old, can't find this kind of craftsmanship these days, no sir.

I head out to the barn, where the body of my latest lovely hangs suspended and waiting just for me. I place my hand against the neck, feeling silky smoothness beneath my hand. I steady the fine tremor in my fingertips-too eager, must wait for the moment-and when the moment is perfect in Zen clarity I make the first SLICE-

And when i'm finished, the body returned to it's place and I ready the GLUE. Oh yes, then I string it up later...

No sir, nothing makes my more happy and calm than the sounds issuing from my own handmade guitars! RAPTURE!!

What...what did you THINK I was doing out there? Filthy minded the lot of you, for shame!

Okay, my neighbors do complain about being tortured-but only when I go outside and practice my scales-'Mary Had A Little Lamb' will be learned any day now! Then i'm going to try to get 'Dueling Banjos' under my belt because, hey, Tradition...
