Design competition: hybridize the Tuk Tuk (auto Rickshaw)

Just spotted this yesterday. Sharpen your pencils...

Quote:
The Hybrid Auto Rickshaw project is a project where students of technical and business studies will battle each other to design the cleanest, cheapest and most practical upgrade kit for existing auto rickshaws.

If you are selected as a Battle team member, a trip to India is part of the deal! You can also win a CO2 neutral trip to India by becoming the most active and innovative volunteer, intern or ambassador for the Hybrid Auto Rickshaw project!

I followed your link. Saw the video of them driving in the city. Wow that was amazing, it's like they have no driving rules. A real free for all!

Yea when I last went (~11 years old), I drove a car and a motorcycle for my first time. They swerve onto the wrong side of the road and no speed limits.

The rickshaw companies would have to make the investment into the hybrid tech. cuz we know the driver's dont have money to make the investment. But would they unless the law requires so? Even if India came up with some kind of emissions standard for rickshaws, I doubt they would be enforced strictly or efficiently. Just my take on this. Of course I'm hoping they efficiently hybridize the vehicles.
