Yup.

Who bought white perforated window vinyl and then someone asked which was more difficult, Plasti-Dipping a side mirror, or applying vinyl?
...and then had someone ask...? It was a gotcha question. I've seen full body wraps (which run about $3000) that cover everything except the mirrors. Covering a hood is straightforward. Wrapping the lower corners would be where they earn the money. The mirrors is where they give up.

Look at anything by dipyourcar.com on Youtube. Plastidip amounts to a vinyl wrap once you get to 5-8 coats.

'Frugal' would be to bare-metal the hood and polish it with steel wool every six months.

This one, for instance had been let go for 1 1/2 years. The car behind it has easily $4K in paint that requires constant maintenance. The owner saved enough that he could buy nice wheels and a Jeepers Creeper.

And you could clearcoat the bare metal, couldn't you?

The rat rod look:

I will rebuild Black and Green over decades as parts die, until it becomes a different car of roughly the same shape and color. My minimum fuel economy goal is 55 mpg while averaging posted speed limits. I generally top 60 mpg. See also my Honda manual transmission specs thread.

Clear coat or a polished metal sealant like Shine Seal or the two-part marine products.

Orange rust is good, because it is bonded to the surface. Brown rust is bad because it is spalling.
