Since diesel engines are fuel delivery throttled, as soon as you lift off, the engine uses zero fuel during overrun. Unless you need the extra coast distance, slowing in gear saves fuel and brake wear (and dirty wheels ).

As for P&G etc, you'll have to try on your own to find out. Different cars will respond to different techniques.

Are you nuts? It's an suv, you don't lower it, because that will look ugly

Reading a lot of threads here about tire spats and belly pans and air dams, i will look more deeper in to that
Underbelly pans and modding the bumpers would be the easiest ways to improve its aerodynamics. A rear spoiler might also help and is a cheap mod.

The car already has a rear spoiler. But is this ok? Or do i need to modify it?

@oldtamiyaphile

I let it coast as far as possible. And when i need to slow down, i start early to let it in biggest gear until it is at 1300rpm, then i downshift 1 gear and so on...

That spoiler may already help, but can still be improved.

Ok. So i did a lot of p&g. And i aim already seeing a big gain. Still need to improve and practice more with p&g.

Here is a pic when i filled up my tank:

1151km with 70,14l gives an average of 6,09l/100km.

And i spend a bit time of adding a bit weight to the car.

Gues what i did .

Why do you downshift at 1300rpm? DFCO should continue until you reach idle. By keeping it in the highest gear/ lowest RPM, you minimize engine braking and maximize your distance traveled in DFCO .

I will often cruise in 5th at say 1300RPM, and if the light ahead changes, I'll shift up to 6th (~1000RPM), there's so little engine brake that it feels almost like neutral, but unlike neutral I'm using zero fuel. Once I feel/ see the fuel cut back in (800RPM) I just flick the lever into neutral and use the brakes to stop (traveling pretty slow at this stage). Sometimes I might go from 6th to 3rd during a stop to get a bit more DFCO and save the brakes, but I feel the extra wear & tear from the downshift isn't really worth the fuel saving.

Normally, the only time I downshift during DFCO is if the light changes and if I think I'll need say 3rd I'll downshift ASAP so I maximize DFCO and save brake wear, and of course I'm in the right gear when it's time to accelerate again.

Thats a good point. I guess that i can try to maintain the higher gear longer until i go lower then 900rpm.

This is what i did:

Just cut some random stuff away

Attach to your car:

Drive 2 days around, notice that the scangauge is giving a better fuel economy number, so i decided to paint it:

A few small layors of paint and 24h of driing time, reatach to the car:
Without:

With:

This is already on my car for the past 1500km and survived a few hours driving at 120km/h and haf an our at 140km/h with heavy wind head on.

I want to safe fuel at stop lights and when i have a long coast, every day when i drive to work, i have a 2km long road where i can shut my engine of. So is installing a kill swiths dificult?
Is it ok, because i have a turbocharger? hot and oil???

Because a few days ago, the fuel price of diesel would go up, i filled up the tank.

I drove 896km, and filled my tank up with 52,36l, giving me an average of 5,84

Goal to beat: 6l/100km, that was easy....
I now can drive 1200km on one tank of diesel.
If those numbers keep consistant.

So, time for the next goal, maybe 1300km on one tank?
That means i need to get an average of 5,5l/100km.
Lets drop the consumption with 0,4l, thats gonne be dificult.
Or not?

I know what you mean. But that is an acces hole for mounting the tire spat. Maybe i spend a few hours for it to invent a way to close that also.
