DIY d-series Civic water pump idler plate

I took my daily driver, "black & green," off the road today for a week of service and mods, and I have a question for the forum. Anyone ever fabricated their own idler plate for a water pump?

I am considering cutting the impellers off my stock water pump, which works fine. Here is a picture of an OEM style d-series water pump, showing its impellers:



I have checked honda-tech.com and d-series.org ... and I know about Meziere electric pumps (they are not available for d-series honda engines).

Here is a water pump I am considering... I have not checked how its specs compare with the stock water volume and flow rate yet:

I'd be concerned with the first pump. MAX working temp is 100C. The housing is plastic. Not that it won't hold up, but I'd rather not take the chance. You have a perfectly good water pump already on the car. Just find a way to spin it with an electric motor. Its probably cheaper too.

That is true, of course. The only issue is that the d-series Honda waterpump is driven by the timing belt, so it is under the timing cover. And taking the pump off the belt would mean I'd need a non-OEM shorter replacement belt for the engine critical role of timing. Seems like a mistake could ruin my engine. And I think the appropriate manufacturer of a shorter belt would be hard to indentify. The belt and pulleys are grooved.
