DIY: Side View Mirror Delete, Side View Camera Addition
Yesterday I finally got the chance to play around with side view cameras, and while the video goes over most of the stuff, I thought it would be worth posting a few extra notes here on ecomodder.
Stuff I bought:
Car Rear Backup Camera Reverse Wide View Vision - eBay (item 110375394912 end time Apr-17-09 11:15:00 PDT)
New 7 Inch TFT Color Screen LCD Car Rear View Monitor - eBay (item 120404545582 end time Apr-17-09 09:15:00 PDT)
Was a solid $90 for all of that.
The camera is water proof and the screen can take two video inputs (two cameras) with switching via remote, so, decent deal. That's also a 7" camera for anyone wondering, so it's really easy to see.
There were really no stumbling blocks during the install, but you'll have to figure out for yourself on your car. The base for the camera was easy because I could easily disassemble the CRX mirrors into two pieces. If you can't you might need to cut a mirror in half for a good base.
Also, running the wires inside will prove to be tricky. I haven't done it yet because I'm lazy, but I will sooner or later and am not looking forward to it.

Dang! Awesome job!! And at a cost cheaper than a new OEM replacement mirror assembly from the discount places. I am very impressed!!

Yeah, I was going to mention that it's less costing then the fancy mirror these days, but I didn't want to video to stretch on for hours while I blabbed.

Oo... running the wires should actually be relatively easy, since you can follow the OEM channels from the Power mirror setup.
Go right through that center hole in the mirror mounting location, then tuck the wire straight down into the door pocket, and make it follow the speaker wire out the front of the door, back to the OEM interior harness. From there, it's easy.

1 - Your car still has all the necessary holes and slots to run the wiring, even though the DX never came with power mirrors.
2 - You could get Power Mirrors in US Civics, and the CRX Si from 90-91.

Nice job, Ben!
I'm actually going to pick up one of those displays so I can replace my dying overhead screen in my Odyssey.

Hi,
Does any of the camera specs say what the angle of view is? It would be good to know this, so we can compare this camera to others; like the one that Coyote X used.
